An Indoors to Escape the Outdoors: Weddings or Engagements at Lincoln Park Conservatory by the Zoo

Nestled right next to the Lincoln Park Zoo, this historic Chicago gem offers an indoor option that perfectly blends natural beauty with timeless architecture for your photography. You can dodge the Chicago weather or get some beautiful scenery with out going to far from the city, this place is nice.

The Goods

Goods: It’s Like a Year-Round Tropical Vacation

Rain, snow, or blazing heat? Doesn’t matter here. The Conservatory is a consistent 75 degrees and full of lush, photogenic plant life no matter what’s happening outside. You’ll get the vibrant greens, warm colors, and exotic feel of a tropical getaway—minus the plane ticket and TSA line.

Goods: Variety for Days

Each of the Conservatory’s rooms—Palm House, Fern Room, Orchid Room, and Show House—has its own unique vibe. This means you can go from dramatic palm-filled backdrops to soft, floral settings all in one place. No need to jump into the limo for a different backdrop, it’s all there.

Goods: It’s a Weatherproof Option

No need to reschedule for rain, snow, or surprise hailstorms. The Conservatory’s indoors, so you’ll get gorgeous shots no matter what the Chicago sky is up to. This makes it a solid choice for winter engagements or unpredictable spring days.

The Not So Good

Not So Good: You Need a Permit

Like most top photo spots, the Conservatory requires a permit. It’s not a big deal, but it’s one more thing to plan ahead for at least a week in advance, more would be ideal. The staff takes preservation seriously, so make sure to follow the guidelines and keep your photographer’s gear light.

Not So Good: You Have a Limited Window of Time

Getting there past 5 pm means you don’t get in there at all. Unless the staff will let you shoot there for 5 minutes by the doors, but even that is pushing your luck. Your other events that have locked in times might not give you the room needed to do photoshoots here.
